Mauritius is a small island found in the middle of the sea. Resources are therefore very limited and so precious to us, the islanders. Most of the Mauritian economy depends on the island’s beaches, surrounding sea, forests, agricultural land and so on. Therefore, we primarily depend on our environment. As a brand that is “Made in Moris” that loves our cultural identity and diversity, we know that preserving our island is more than important. This is the primary reason the See-cond Life Project was created.
The “See-cond Life Project” was created as an eco-responsible initiative to preserve our island from plastic pollution. Even though our eyewear is made from more noble bio-plastics and that we always have the ecology in mind with our recycled, upcycled and natural frames, we know plastics take longer to biodegrade. We do not want to form part of the problem but be part of the solution.
The project aims to have Mauritians bring their old or broken eyewear (not only Helios Eyewear) to us in exchange for a discount on a new pair. From there, our company, Plastinax Eyewear and the brand, will recycle them or properly dispose of them to reduce plastic waste on the island.

We are all aware of how pollution can mean the end to ecosystems that are vital for our planet to thrive. Plastics can even end up in our own bodies when we consume animals that have ingested microplastics.

When you make full use of a product, you are extending its product life meaning that it will not end up in a landfill so soon. If it can be repaired, repair it. If it is old but can still be used, then continue using it.
Return your old or broken pair
After having made full use of your eyewear and that it is beyond repair and too old to wear, you can drop it in our collection boxes. You can find our collection boxes at our Helios Eyewear shops in Saint Pierre and Grand Bay.

The discount allows you to be even more eco-friendly by opting for a new eyewear that has very little CO2 impact, since we manufacture and sell within the island. Plus, our materials are less harmful to the environment since our plastics are made from 58% of castor oil and our Green collections are made from natural materials or recycled and upcycled plastics. Also, you can get your pair repaired with our after sale service, hence extending the lifespan of your eyewear.
As from there, the rest is up to us! Your returned eyewear will be dismantled, what can be reused will be, the rest will be broken down and transformed into a brand new pair.

Clean out your closets, drawers and all the hidden spots in your homes, dig out these old or broken pairs. Be eco-responsible and return them to us. Remember, each pair is valid for one discount no matter in which state it is in, so don’t throw it in the trash!
