Did you know that fishing nets contribute to the majority of plastic pollution in our oceans? There is even a term for this global phenomenon and it is called ‘ghost net’. It spreads in our oceans and drifts along coastlines due to the tides, endangering the fragile marine wildlife and ecosystem.

One of the main reasons why this has reached such an alarming level is due to the non-biodegradable plastic composition of the fishing nets, which is Nylon.

What is Helios Nylo Collection?

Helios Eyewear collaborated with Fil & Fab, an organization that has been able to create a new raw material recycled from fishing nets.

Nylo is a recycled polyamide made in the form of granules dedicated to injection. The locally made sunglasses frames of Helios Eyewear are injected in this exceptional and innovative raw material to give us the eco-responsible Nylo collection.

How does the Nylo Collection help in restoring our corals?

As a local and sustainable business, we are aware that our corals are irreplaceable high biodiversity environments that are a source of income and food for local communities and important to marine life.

Eco-Sud is actively contributing to the goal of restoring 3.2 hectares of coral in the Blue Bay Marine Park with the support of the Adaptation Fund and the United Nations Development Program (UNDP). Dr. Shashi Chumun, head of Eco-Sud’s scientific team, explains this initiative in this video.
